BEFORE YOU APPLY
Time, choices and taking part
Read how the work and participation are arranged before you decide whether to apply.
Time and participation
Can I join if I am already in other student groups?
Consider your classes, study habits and energy. Many members also take part in other student groups or class work. If your schedule is already full, you do not need to add another commitment. Choose a pace that leaves room for study and rest.
Link to this questionHow much time does each team usually need?
The Service Team usually has around two hours of office duty each week, scheduled around collected timetables and members’ preferences. The Organisation and Creative Teams mainly work on activities or individual tasks. You can volunteer according to your time and interests; once you accept a task, follow the agreed schedule or communicate changes. Work may be busier around major events.
Link to this questionCan I reduce my involvement during exams or busy study periods?
Yes. Study and rest come first. Speak to your team lead in advance if you need to reduce your involvement, adjust tasks or take a break. For work or shifts you have already accepted, explain your progress and arrange a handover or replacement.

Can I join if I am quiet or less confident socially?
Yes. Alongside face-to-face enquiries, there is writing, design, layout, photography, planning and practical support. There is no required personality type. Find work you care about, communicate when you need help and learn with others.
Link to this questionIs it worth applying if there are many other applicants?
If you are interested, give yourself a chance to prepare and apply. Group-chat numbers do not tell you how many people will apply or whether you are a good fit. The form and interview help us get to know each other. Selection follows the current criteria; if you are not selected, you can stay in touch, join activities open to non-members or apply in a future recruitment campaign.
Link to this questionCan I apply after my first year?
Yes. Recruitment is open to full-time BFSU undergraduates in all years, and some members join in their second year or later. Take time to settle into your studies. Check a future notice for available teams, dates and application requirements.
Link to this questionWhat is the difference between the first and second rounds?
For the autumn 2026 recruitment campaign, the main difference is application and interview timing. The selection criteria, available teams and opportunities after joining are the same. Neither round has priority or is designed to be easier. Choose according to your readiness and check the current notice for dates.

Can non-members take part in school outreach?
Yes. “Represent BFSU” recruits students across the university; BFSUAPA membership is not required. Members can also help with planning, volunteer coordination, policy training or publicity. Winter-break notices usually appear in October and November. Follow the BFSUAPA WeChat account for each event’s dates and requirements.
Link to this questionCan I support admissions teams in my home region after the national entrance examination?
Such opportunities may be available, depending on your classes and exams and the local admissions team’s volunteer needs. BFSUAPA usually helps coordinate applications when volunteers are needed. Participation depends on selection and confirmation. Travel expenses are generally reimbursed under university and admissions-team arrangements; confirm the scope and procedure before travelling.
Link to this questionCan non-members volunteer at open days or comprehensive-evaluation check-in?
These roles are usually recruited within BFSUAPA first. They may open to other students if vacancies remain. In previous years, members have generally filled the roles, so opportunities for non-members have been limited. Check the notice for the particular event.
